Creating a Successful Marketing Week

As many of you know, marketing week is a wonderful opportunity to market our chapter and create a strong presence on campus. Many chapters in the AMA compete to hold the best marketing week and some of the most successful chapters presented their lineup of events for the week along with tips to create a diverse program of events.

Ferris State University: 

The tips they provided were:
    - Plan Ahead
    - Promote events both individually as well as combined
    - Develop a theme (they went with "Fearless Marketing Week)
    - Have a broad range of activities to engage everyone

Their Events Included:
    - Jia Jing as a speaker to kick off the week
    - LinkedIn workshop
    - Mechanical Bulldog as a fundraiser/ social event
    - Social for the members of the AMA
    - Career opportunities and networking ( open to the college of Business)
         - they invited local companies and sponsors who were looking to hire interns and grads

Ithaca College:

The tip they provided was:
    - Set Goals
         - Build awareness and general recruitment
         - Promote prominent female marketing leaders (theme of the week)
         - Form relations with the greater community

Their Events Included:
    - Professor spoke about her research, got students excited about undergraduate research
    - Business card tutorial workshop
    - Women entrepreneurs panel
    - Internship pannel, allow upperclassman to speak about their experiences
    - Chicken Wing fling as a social event for members

Saint Joseph's College:

The tips they provided:
    - Theme of the week ("Let Your Potential Take Flight")
    - Showcase diverse interests of members
    - Held an attendance competition for a raffle prize

Their Events Included:
    - Philly add agency panel
    - Executives from Lilly Pulitzer (a local customer)
    - Philadelphia Union Visual Marketing
    - Hulu lecture and case activity
    - AMA marketer of the year ( this year it was the Pope who visited their school that week)

University of Maryland:

The tip they provided was:
    - Incorporate Mission (Social, Professional, and Educational)
    - Balance of professional and social events
    - Theme ("Tell Your Story")

Their Events Included:
    - Speaker
    - Personal Branding workshop with local company (1 on 1 with the CEO)
    - Social dinner

    - membership points system
    - events should be required for e-board
    - used linked in to connect to professional contacts
    - interview and spotlight for member with the most points for the week
    - question members about what they value, surveys
    - get as many professors involved as possible 
    - put largest event on the day of your scheduled meeting time to guarantee attendance 
    - quality of events over quantity 
    - do not overwhelm the week with events
    - integrated marketing plan for the week
    - utilize on campus network
