The Universities listed above all spoke about their successes with Professional Development in their chapter and what they did in order to achieve their goals.
Professional Development: the process of obtaining the skills, qualifications, and experience that allows one to make progress in his or her career.
The chapter can do this by..
- providing networking opportunities
- providing hands on career experience
- increasing knowledge in marketing and business related fields
- having professional speakers and holding workshops (ask the students what they want to get more experience with... excel, linkedin, interviewing etc...
Many of the chapters that spoke recommended bringing the students to as many conferences and tours as possible to give them a realistic view of what it is like to be in the profession of marketing and also continue to further themselves and learn as much as they can before entering the workforce. These chapters also expressed the importance of holding networking events such as job fairs to allow students to meet professionals and get there name out there. Some other ideas that could possibly help our members were holding business showcases and working on "real world" marketing projects...
I personally really like the idea of holding branding workshops to make sure members are aware of what an appropriate personal image on and off social media should look like. Some things involved in these workshops would be working on interviewing skills, confidence when speaking and in general, a students digital preference, and resume building. I also would really love to hold a few sales competitions as well as other competitions to get our members more involved and make meetings fun as well as bring people together and create more of a culture for the group.
