Mint Your Future: Reflection

I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to attend this conference, the amount of information I was able to take away and all the things I learned this weekend has made the trip well worth it for me. I really loved hearing what the other schools that attended had to say about their successes in both professional development and community service. I was also extremely impressed with some of the students public speaking skills, it has made me realize how much room there I have for improvement and it has motivated me to take more public speaking classes and work on my stage fright. These other chapters also have given me so many new ideas to try with our chapter and I cant wait to get everyone involved and make everyone feel more prepared for their future careers in marketing. It was great to hear from so many successful professionals who have been through the recruitment process and have been able to achieve their dreams and goals, they offered up so many helpful tips and gave great advice that I will have throughout the rest of my life as an aspiring business professional. Going to this conference gave me a great sense of what the marketing world has come to look like and how it is evolving digitally, I learned so many things about the different careers I could have and what a job in marketing would actually look like, which I am hoping to relay to the members of our chapter to give them a realistic view of possible careers.

The best learning experience I got out of attending this conference was participating in the Marketing Strategy Competition. During this competition we received a case study and were given twenty minutes to read it over and come up with a marketing strategy for the company. We then had 7 minutes to present our ideas and advice to solve the problem presented to us. Since I still have not taken any marketing classes and hardly any business classes this was very nerve-wracking for me, it was definitely a challenge. Me and Ashely did very well in my opinion considering the circumstance we were in and I am very proud of us even though we may have struggled a bit. I now now what I need to improve on in the future and what to expect when it comes to giving a sales pitch. The conference was a great experience overall and I encourage everyone to work as hard as they can to ensure they can attend it at least once.
