Using Marketing Related Community Service to Create Social Impact

This presentation was another that had various schools presenting different ways they have gone about giving back to the communities they go to school in.

The first girl who I got to see present was from Florida International University. During her presentation she talked about how important passion is when doing community service. The big event they completed was raising money for Claire Wineland, the girl behind the Clarity Project that was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. She talked about how they started an online campaign using #giveabreath and also made a crowdrise page to reach their goal within a month. The best point she made that I 100% agree with was, the best part of putting in all the hard work to achieve your goal is the feeling you get when you get to give the money you raised and you see how happy they are.

The next presenters were from the University of Arkansas and they gave tips as to how to successfully utilize marketing while doing community service. They started off by saying what worked best for them was to create a strategic partnership with a company, specifically one that's a big community service company. They said they also choose to donate their time to local businesses to create a relationship that can potentially help both organizations. To do this the mentioned that it was key to build a rapport, to ask what more you can do to help, and to find ways that chapter expertise can be applied.

The other AMA chapter I got to see present was from the University of Pittsburgh. They detailed the various projects they completed like a 5k run, an ugly sweater run, and also ran events to provide for the Ronald McDonald house. They did various things to raise money for the event like working with sponsors and trying to get as many people as possible to volunteer. Their most successful effort was a social event where they charged $5 for, as a result they raised over $1200.
